This, Abraham, is your reward

"Because of Id al-Adha, the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice, alternate-side street-cleaning regulations will be suspended in New York City on Thursday and Friday."

Related: ever notice how working in Word now seems quaint?

I've been working on a long(er) written project--not a reported piece or anything journalistic of that nature, which would be a lot easier. Instead, I'm writing one of those lengthy case-making sort of essays, the kind that I'd easily pound out every 36 hours in college. Stuff that used to be total cake, but now I find to be positively excruciating, and not because I don't know what to write or don't want to do the work. I'm just totally and completely unable to focus; my attention span is dwarfed by that of the average gnat. And you know why that is. Don't you, blogosphere? DON'T YOU, STUPID INTERNET STUPID MT WINDOW THAT I KEEP OPENING IN TIMES OF TOTAL FRUSTRATION CHOOSING TO EFFORTLESSLY WRITE HERE WHEN INSTEAD I COULD BE WORKING ON A SIMPLE TEXT DOC THAT GOD FORBID I DARE TO FOCUS ON FOR MORE THAN TWO MINUTES AT A TIME BECAUSE DEEP DOWN YOU MAY VERY WELL HAVE SUCKED ME OF THE ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING THAT DOESN'T INVOLVE DRAWING UPON MULTIPLE WEBSITES AND DOZENS OF IM WINDOWS AT A TIME JUST TO SPIT OUT ONE PITHY PARAGRAPH ABOUT HOW THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING AND THAT THREE YEARS FROM NOW SOME NOBEL-PRIZE WINNING SCIENTIST WILL HAVE IDENTIFIED A FRIGHTENING VIRAL STRAIN OF POST-MILLENNIAL ADD AND OMG LET ME JUST CHECK THE PATS SCORE WAIT I WANT TO SEE THOSE PICTURES CLARK HOYT WAS WRITING ABOUT GOTTA REMEMBER TO TIVO THAT CLINTON INTERVIEW BUT FIRST LET ME ORDER SOME DINNER SO I CAN EAT AND GET BACK TO WORKING ON WHAT WAS I WORKING ON AGAIN DOES SEAMLESSWEB CARE ABOUT CAPLOCKS?

The plague that dare not speak its name

I've finally completed my Red-Wine Mouth Manifesto. Actually, it's not a manifesto so much as an overwrought lament from a plaintive girl with a drinking problem, but whatever. With you, world, I share my pain!

I'm also available for comment on tampons and enemas!

From the inbox:

Hi,

I'm trying to reach Jessica Coen -- I'm writing a story for a magazine in Louisville, Ky., called Velocity about the word douchebag. Bear with me. We're trying to figure out how douchebag became such a prevalent term to describe, well, douchebags. Choire Sicha at Gawker suggested I contact you about it -- I wanted to talk to someone at Gawker about it, and they said you'd probably be the best person to talk about how douchebag first made its appearance at Gawker.

Is there any way you could spare a few minutes for a brief interview on this topic? I'm at (502)XXX-XXXX. My deadline is coming up soon, so I'm trying to get this finished as soon as possible. I'd really appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,

[Poor Misguided Soul]
